Daily Practices
BE STILL ‧ 5 MIN
Before you hear the story, take five minutes to be quiet.
Listening begins by becoming present—to God, and to yourself as the person who is about to hear.
Be still and quiet. Step away from the concerns of the day. Notice what is happening in your body and emotions. Ask the Lord to help you see the truth about where you are.
It doesn’t have to be 5 minutes, but try for it. It’s hard at first, but quickly becomes something you look forward to.
ENTER THE STORY ‧ 5-10 MIN
Enter the story with enough context to find your way.
Each day offers a 1-2 chapters of Scripture (5-10 minutes), a prompt to guide your attention, and enough context to find your way. As you read, use your journal to record what you notice, question, resist, or want to follow further.
You learn to follow the movement of a story, notice the details that matter, and ask better questions of what you find.
RECORD WHAT STIRS ‧ ALONG THE WAY
Stay curious where the story presses
When the story catches you off guard, stop. The confusion, resistance, wonder, or ache may be an invitation. Record your response. Investigate. Ask another question. Stay a little longer.
The text may be pressing against something you already believe or revealing something in your own story. You do not have to rush toward an answer. Curiosity, courage, and honest attention are part of the work.
One Honest Gathering
DISCERN WITH OTHERS ‧ IN YOUR OWN RHYTHM
Bring what you recorded into honest community.
Gather without performing. Share what you noticed, questioned, resisted, or found difficult. Listen without fixing. Help one another see what cannot be seen alone.
Some of what the story reveals will be deeply personal. We need people who can help us stay with difficult questions, notice what we cannot see alone, and remember that understanding is not the same as having every answer.
